New Club Extension for Lympstone Boxing Club

Lympstone Boxing club have had the funding agreed with support from the Exeter Chiefs Foundation and Sport England for an exciting new project to improve and extend the clubs training facility in Exmouth.

Work will begin on May 1 to extend the club to allow for an extra boxing ring, additional training stations and floor space.

The club's treasurer, Mike Kelsall-Spur, has worked tirelessly to secure the funding to support the project.

An extraordinary 2020 wasn’t lost on the club as they have maintained their fitness regime with the boxers whilst continuing to plan for the future.

The club hopes the doors of the new facility will be open in the summer and very much welcome all local residents to join, whether looking to participate in the sport or simply get fit, the club will have a programme that suits the community.

Club Chairman Tommy McPhee says: “We want to offer coaching and competitive opportunities in boxing and fitness whilst promoting the values of hard work, discipline and respect. We want to develop opportunities for sport and fitness support to those in the community with mental health issues, appropriate now more than ever.

“It’s a very exciting time for the club and we will, for sure, have one of the premier boxing facilities in the South West and want to be at the very peak of England Boxing, the club wants to make champions whilst growing in stature as a community club. Our support from the Exeter Chiefs foundation is the beginning of a very bright future for the clubs and will undoubtedly grow from strength to strength.”

Club coach Paul Silk said: “It’s been tough not being able to be in the gym and compete in the sport we all train so hard for so we cant wait to get back in there and with the opportunities the new facilities and partnerships will create I feel really optimistic that we will come back stronger as a club and look forward to a bright future for all at Lympstone ABC.”

The local community that the club supports, embraces the ethos of the club and what they are trying to achieve.
