Nearly 100 walkers take part in Exeter Chiefs Foundation Community Walk

Nearly 100 walkers were joined by one dog as Exeter Chiefs Foundation Community Walk kicked off at the Wonford Community & Learning Centre.

The aim of this year’s walk was to raise funds for Exeter’s St Petrock’s charity, which supports homeless people in the city.

Sponsored by Exeter College and Willmott Dixon, and supported by Exeter City Council, the walk covered 12km to raise awareness of the average distance covered by those experiencing homelessness in one day - 12 miles.

Every entrant was given a commemorative t-shirt and treated to a pasty and a pint, sponsored by Typhoon Associates, Chunk of Devon, and Heineken, while they watched the Exeter Chiefs v Gloucester Rugby game on Saturday.

Becky Skinner, the Foundation’s administrator, said: “It was a bright sunny morning for a lovely walk through the Exeter Green Circle and it was great to see almost 25% more people at this year’s event than last year’s. Not only is this a great fundraising event, but it also gave people a chance to get moving in the fresh air. Thank you to everyone who helped organise, volunteer, attend or donate to this year's walk.”

Billed as leisurely walk, the first walker to arrive at Sandy Park was Michael Johnson, who completed the route in just two hours!

Mrs Skinner added: “Every donation, large or small, helps St Petrock's continue being there for people experiencing homelessness and all contributions are gratefully received.”
