New Chiefs Cycling Club is Formed

Following the success of the first-ever European Cycle Challenge back in January, a new cycling club has been formed to carry on the fundraising efforts for years to come.

Exeter Chiefs Cycling has been formed to build on the success of this year’s challenge, which saw 23 riders and four support crew make the 485-mile route from Sandy Park to the Stade Chaban Delmas in Bordeaux, raising over £22,000 for the club’s official charity, Exeter Foundation.

The aim of the new club, details of which are to be announced shortly, is to build on the success of the Bordeaux trip and provide a platform for rugby fans, together with their friends and families to get involved in cycling at a social level.

A mixture of weekly rides are being planned for people to join in if they wish, while plans are already in place for a second European Cycle Challenge, as well family rides for people of all ages.

At half-time on Sunday during the Aviva Premiership clash between the Chiefs and Wasps, representatives from the Bordeaux trip were pitch side to hand over a cheque for £22,211 to Exeter Foundation chairman Tony Rowe OBE, who was part of the support crew for the inaugural trip.

The newly-created Exeter Chiefs Cycling club will be launched in the next few weeks, so please keep an eye on the Exeter Chiefs official website and social media sites for further details.
