New workbenches offer improved creative opportunities
The Exeter Chiefs Foundation has funded two height-adjustable accessible workbenches to enable more people to enjoy the facilities at Co Create Exeter.
Co Create, in Haven Road, is a shared studio space that enables groups and individuals to learn from experts and practise new skills to boost physical and mental well-being and enhance career opportunities.
The not-for-profit community interest company contacted the Foundation when they received feedback that their higher fixed benches were restrictive.
John Marker, director of Co Create Exeter, said: “These new benches will improve usability for people of all ages, physical abilities and backgrounds, The upgrade will significantly enhance our ability to deliver inclusive, hands-on workshops.
“Designed with accessibility and adaptability in mind, these benches will help ensure that all members of the community can participate equally in all our activities.”
Activities delivered by the Co Create include woodworking, creative writing and boat building, plus a weekly drop-in session for women to help them achieve simple DIY tasks.
Mr Marker added: “By improving access to tools and the workspace, these benches will contribute to upskilling local residents, reducing social isolation, and strengthening Exeter’s circular, creative community.”
