The Exeter Foundation has sponsored an award championing the hard work of young athletes at Torbay Athletics Club.

The 'Shining Star' award will be re-awarded every year at the Club's annual awards ceremony and aims to reward the hard work of the athletes and highlight their outstanding achievements.

Torbay Athletics Club Junior Section has gone from strength to strength over recent years with over 140 athletes aged from 8 - 18.  The winners of the first 'Shining Star' awards were Rebecca Roots (left) and Elyse Leech (right) who competed at a national level last year in the 200 meters and the way they are progressing currently are both on track to be selected for nationals again this year. Coached by Steve Cottle, the girls personal best times are: Rebecca 25:37 seconds 200m & Elyse 25:32 seconds 200m

Marc Astley, Trustee of the Exeter Foundation said "One of the aims of the Exeter Foundation is to promote physical wellbeing of individuals, which Torbay Athletics Club does in spades. The Shining Star award is a special one and gives athletes something extra to work towards. We look forward to hearing about who receives it each year."
